Photostory
A Day in the Life of Max and Ruby
For my photostory I choce to follow my dogs around at different times of the day to capture what they basically do on a daily basis. They were very photogenic most of the time. Each of the shots just shows typically what they do all day.

Portraits
The first portrait photo here is of my sister who is currently battling cancer. She is my hero in so many ways. I captured this in black and white because I feel that it makes for a more dramatic shot. I told her to make any expression she wanted and she told me that she wanted to smile. This photo I feel captures how strong of a person she is, with everything she's going through she still manages to put a smile on her face everyday.
The second portrait I took is of my brother and his girlfriend. I feel that it is a very natural photo because they are both smiling and look very happy.

Filters
These are the two photos I chose to use filters on. I edited them using Gimp. The first photo I used a wave filter.
This second photo is a photo I took in Boston a little while ago. The filter I used on this one is an oil painting effect.

Photo Adjustments
This is the first photo I chose to edit. The top is the original, and the bottom the edited one. This was a photo of sunrise.
On this photo I made the color adjustments in gimp. I wanted to make it so that the orange and pink color of the sky stood out a lot more then in the first picture. What I did first was slightly adjust the brightness and contrast. Then I worked on adjustments with the color. The red is what I made to be stronger in the color adjustment so that they sky would stand out more. The final thing I did was adjust the lightness and saturation of the photo. I increased the saturation to make it more vibrant.
For the other set of photos I slightly altered with adjustments on the bottom photograph, again using Gimp. What I first did was increased the saturation and lightness. Then I worked on adjusting the colors. In the bottom photo (the edited one) you can see that the color of my dog appears more red. That is more of her actual color as opposed to the first one where she appears more brown. She is a reddish-brown colored dog so I wanted to make her color more prominent by adjusting the red hues.

First Attempt with Gimp
This was my very first attempt at using Gimp for editing my photo. I have struggled a lot with figuring out how to use it this week. I watched the videos and tried to figure out certain aspects on my own, but still haven't completely grasped it yet. For this photo I used a lot of the color editing tools to enhance the sunset. I am going to try with another one later on. I just wanted to have something up to show.

Landscapes
I took many different shots of landscapes outside around where I live. Although it was a cloudy day, I was still able to capture a bit of the blue sky that was out momentarily. These are the three of my favorite shots that I have chosen to share:
This second shot I chose because it is simple, yet intricate at the same time. I think it is interesting how the road in this particular shot is slanted rather than being completely straight, which I feel wouldn't make the photo as interesting that it is. I also attempted to use the rule of thirds in this picture by having the large tree be to the right of the picture rather than directly in the center.
Finally, this third shot I chose I like because what I was trying to focus on was the layout of the mountains in the very background. Again, it is somewhat of a bland picture because there are not many colors, but in winter you're basically only dealing with whites and grays in most photographs that you take outside. I also like the texture of the ground in this photograph. I was standing in a field, so the ground was bumpy everywhere.

Rule of Thirds
What is aesthetics?
What I have gathered through some quick research is that aesthetics truly has no one specific definition. What aesthetics is in photography is based on the individual taking the photograph, it is what they constitute as 'beauty'. What makes the photo beautiful. Photography is a form of an art and aesthetics is really what makes up the art. For some people this may be what draws your eye to the photograph such as specific colors or a specific scene.
Below is an article that helped me with learning what aesthetics in photography was:

Here is an interesting quote I found on aesthetics:
“Art is the imposing of a pattern on experience, and our aesthetic enjoyment is recognition of the pattern.”

Lighting
This set of pictures I have for showing lighting are of the same tree at three different times of the day. They each show how lighting affects the object in the picture.
This first photo was taken in the morning, it shows how the lighting wasn't very bright yet, granted it was a cloudy day, but the white in the tree kind of blends with the sky.
The second photo above was taken in the afternoon, it was a different day then the first, but the same tree. As you can see the sun is shining on the tree and making the white in the tree more pronounced.

Color Scheme Photos
The first photo for the color scheme I chose was monochrome. As you can see in the picture, the same color hue of blue is used. The blue on the side is darker and the one in the background is lighter, but the same color is used throughout the picture.

My Collage
The collage I have made is an array of many different photos in macro that I've taken of objects throughout my house. I had no specific theme, but I just liked how all the objects look together.

My 2 favorites
This top photograph is definitely my favorite. I like this photo because of the angle it is taken at. It is more of a front view and I just like the way that she happened to be laying. I am not too pleased with the lighting, but as I said I am hoping that my new camera will help with taking better pictures.
This second picture I also like because it shows a different angle. The head seems more close up then in the top one. I know that it seems like a weird angle, but I just enjoy how it captured the photo. You really can focus in more on the face in this one. Week 2 Photo assignment (first set of pictures)
This week I decided to photograph my pup, Ruby. She was such a good little model for these photographs. These are not all my favorites, but as I am just starting out I have many things to get used to. When I get my new camera this week I am hoping that the images will be better.
