Photostory

A Day in the Life of Max and Ruby

For my photostory I choce to follow my dogs around at different times of the day to capture what they basically do on a daily basis. They were very photogenic most of the time. Each of the shots just shows typically what they do all day.

Portraits

The first portrait photo here is of my sister who is currently battling cancer. She is my hero in so many ways. I captured this in black and white because I feel that it makes for a more dramatic shot. I told her to make any expression she wanted and she told me that she wanted to smile. This photo I feel captures how strong of a person she is, with everything she's going through she still manages to put a smile on her face everyday.

The second portrait I took is of my brother and his girlfriend. I feel that it is a very natural photo because they are both smiling and look very happy.

Filters

These are the two photos I chose to use filters on. I edited them using Gimp. The first photo I used a wave filter.

This second photo is a photo I took in Boston a little while ago. The filter I used on this one is an oil painting effect.

Photo Adjustments

This is the first photo I chose to edit. The top is the original, and the bottom the edited one. This was a photo of sunrise.

On this photo I made the color adjustments in gimp. I wanted to make it so that the orange and pink color of the sky stood out a lot more then in the first picture. What I did first was slightly adjust the brightness and contrast. Then I worked on adjustments with the color. The red is what I made to be stronger in the color adjustment so that they sky would stand out more. The final thing I did was adjust the lightness and saturation of the photo. I increased the saturation to make it more vibrant.

For the other set of photos I slightly altered with adjustments on the bottom photograph, again using Gimp. What I first did was increased the saturation and lightness. Then I worked on adjusting the colors. In the bottom photo (the edited one) you can see that the color of my dog appears more red. That is more of her actual color as opposed to the first one where she appears more brown. She is a reddish-brown colored dog so I wanted to make her color more prominent by adjusting the red hues.

First Attempt with Gimp

This was my very first attempt at using Gimp for editing my photo. I have struggled a lot with figuring out how to use it this week. I watched the videos and tried to figure out certain aspects on my own, but still haven't completely grasped it yet. For this photo I used a lot of the color editing tools to enhance the sunset. I am going to try with another one later on. I just wanted to have something up to show.
